USC update: The Trojans reached bowl eligibility with a 31-26 win over Arizona State on Saturday, winning two roads in a row for the first time since 2017. … USC saw center Brett Neilon leave the game with a calf strain, in addition to injuries to WR Tyler Vaughns, DE Caleb Tremblay and TE Erik Krommenhoek. … RBs Vavae Malepeai (knee) and Stephen Carr (hamstring) are both close to returning for the first time in three weeks after warming up with the team prior to the Arizona State game. … USC lost to Cal last season 15-14. It was the first time the Trojans lost to the Golden Bears since 2003, ending a 14-game winning streak in the 104-year series.

Cal’s last game: The Golden Bears beat Washington State 33-20 at home on Saturday, ending a four-game losing streak. … QB Devon Modster completed two-thirds of his passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns. The junior from Mission Viejo also rushed seven times for 43 yards and a touchdown. … Cal gave up 423 yards but stopped Wazzu nine out of 12 times on third down and forced three turnovers. The Bears also played a clean game, with no turnovers and six penalties to Washington State’s 10.
